Newsletter 8, Term 2, Week 6

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

This week, 27th May to 3rd June we celebrate National Reconciliation Week. Its theme – “Be a voice for Generations”, sets us the challenge to continue making ever important strides towards a culturally responsive and reconciled society. What a fitting reminder to each of us to ask questions, explore, learn, share, build and continue the important journey of reconciliation, now and through our children, for generations to come.  This is essential to becoming an equitable community where truth-telling is embedded in how we work, teach and live. National Reconciliation Week is a time for all of us to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Students will be participating in a range of activities this week organised by their classroom teacher.

BERTRAM MEDICAL CENTRE

The Bertram Medical Centre has requested that parents do not park in their carpark when dropping off or picking up students. Any parents doing this may have their vehicle towed away. The carparks in the Bertram Medical Centre are for their patients only.

KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS FOR 2024

Wellard PS is now taking enrolments for Kindergarten for 2024. Enrolments will close on Friday 21st July (Week 1 Term 3). It is most important that you enrol your Kindergarten child for next year as soon as possible. Please speak with neighbours etc. who you know need to enrol their child. To be eligible for enrolment, students need to be born between 1st July 2019 and 30th June 2020. When enrolling your child, you will need to come into the office and provide the following:

  • Copy of your child’s Birth Certificate
  • Up to date Immunisation Records
  • Proof of Address that you reside in our local intake area – preferably a utility bill in your name that is no older than three months.

Please note that students who live within our local intake area will be prioritised for enrolment. Our local intake area can be found within “Schools Online” on the Department of Education’s website.

PLEASE NOTE: We only have 120 places for Kindergarten students in 2024 – we have already distributed 104 enrolment packages, leaving 16 left. Once we will fill the 120 places, we will not be able to receive any more enrolments, so it is very important enrolments are completed as soon as possible.

P&C DRESS UP DAY THURSDAY 1ST JUNE

Students are able to come to school dressed in “What they would like to be when they grow up!” on Thursday of this week. This is a fund raiser for the P&C so they do ask for a gold coin donation from students.

ASSEMBLY

Our next Blue Assembly will be conducted by Rooms 3 & 4 (Year 1) at 8.50am in the undercover area on Friday 9th June.  This is the last assembly for the term.

CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL

The Cross Country Carnival was completed on Wednesday, 24th of May. All events went well, due to the wonderful support of parents and staff, and the excellent behaviour of the students themselves. In a close finish, only 81 points separated Doornat House in first and Karak House in fourth. There were a lot of great performances across the individual events, but we were most pleased to see every student give their personal best for both themselves and their Houses. Well done to all students who participated in the events. We would like to thank all Wellard Primary School staff and all parents for their support. It is all the support that makes it a special event. A full list of results for the individual events are listed below.

Kind regards,
