Mathematics

Stepping Stones Kindergarten – Year 6

Mathematics provide students with essential mathematical skills and knowledge in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. Stepping Stones is the core mathematics program that has been implemented from Kindergarten to Year 6 at Wellard Primary School. Stepping Stones provide students with meaningful problems and real-world applications to create opportunities for classroom discussion within the mathematics learning area. The program delivers a mathematical language that helps create connections between new and existing ideas and enables students to develop a deeper understanding of mathematical strategies and concepts to foster thinking skills.

Mental Mathematics

At Wellard Primary, we have a focus on explicitly teaching mental math strategies and encouraging the students to recognise the strategies they commonly use, while also expanding their repertoire. Throughout the school each classroom is using a Mental Mathematics Program. JEMM (Junior Elementary Maths Mastery), JEMM+ (Junior Elementary Maths Mastery +)  and EMM (Elementary Maths Mastery) is used with the Year 3 – 6 students and focuses on the mastery of solving mathematical questions orally.
