Newsletter Term 3 Week 4 10 August 2021

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Currently teachers are working in year groups in developing a Plan for Remote Teaching and Learning should we go into another lockdown. The Delta variant is very infectious, and as demonstrated in other states, can result in a sudden and prolonged lock down. We need to be prepared for this. You will receive requests for information from your child’s teacher in regard to the devices your child is able to access to assist with their learning. I strongly encourage parents to respond to these requests as soon as possible so that your child’s teacher has a good understanding of your situation. By having this information, teachers will be better placed to provide an educational program that reflects the setup of your household. Connect will be the platform by which teachers will deliver the curriculum as well as communicate to parents. It is most important that every one of the 505 families at Wellard PS checks they are able to access Connect so that the transition from face to face learning to remote learning is a smooth one. Please contact the office if you are having issues with Connect.

POST BOX

Last week a Post Box was installed at the end of the Kiss and Drive area on Jaspar Bend. This should be very convenient for the local community.

SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT DAY

Parents and guardians are reminded that we have a School Development Day on Monday 16th August (Week 5). Students DO NOT come to school this day as staff will be involved in professional learning.

NEXT ASSEMBLIES

Our next assembly will be conducted by Miss Mant’s class (Rm 1, Yr 1) on Friday 13th August (Week 4) commencing at 8.50am in the Assembly Area. Miss Balage’s Pre-primary class will conduct their assembly on Friday 20th August (Week 5).

WESTERN AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS MUSIC SOCIETY

Under the guidance of Ms Amanda Makanza and Miss Ash Alden, our school choir has been preparing itself for their performance at the Crown Theatre this evening.

Parents and guardians who are interested in attending can purchase tickets through Ticketmaster (search for Schools Make Music) at $30 per ticket. I would like to acknowledge and thank Miss Makanza and Miss Ash Alden for preparing our school choir for this event.

KISS AND DRIVE SHELTER AND AIR CONDITIONER INSTALLATION OF ASSEMBLY AREA

Both of these projects are being overseen by a company called Programmed. As part of the process they are required to gain a minimum of three quotes for each of these projects. They are still waiting for the submission of quotes from contractors.

VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS

Payment of Voluntary Contributions is now due. Funds raised through these contributions are used to purchase resources etc. to complement the educational programs we run throughout the school. Thank you to those families who have already paid their contributions. As a school we are always conscious of the costs we seek from parents in relation to educational activities.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION INTERSCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY

On Friday, 6th August, 32 select students from Wellard Primary School (Years 3 to 6) represented our school in the KSSA Interschool Cross Country at Thomas Oval in Medina. The participating students recorded our best result yet; fourth overall.

Three students received individual medals:

Joyce – 3rd, Year 3 girls

Ruby – 1st, Year 4 girls

Jayden – 3rd, Year 6 boys.

The sportsmanship of all students was impeccable and they should all be proud of their outstanding efforts, both on the day and during training.

Thanks to all parents who attended the carnival and/or organised for their children to attend cross country training. A special thank you to Nicole Jovanovic for helping in multiple ways on the day.

Kind Regards

David McIntyre and Matthew Paparone
