Newsletter Term 2 Week 6 25th May 2021

FROM THE PRINCIPAL: P&C PARENT INFORMATION SESSION 1.30PM 1ST JUNE

The P&C (Parents and Citizens Association) is keen to promote its purpose and function to try and attract new members. On Tuesday 1st June at 1.30pm, the P&C will be conducting an Information Session for parents in the staff room. You don’t have to attend every meeting which are held twice a term. Usually there is a meeting held during the day at 1.45pm (Wednesday Week 3) and another of an evening at 6pm (Wednesday Week 8). This is to maximise the opportunities for parents who are unavailable during the day due to work arrangements. The P&C are wanting to engage with parents who have some time to contribute towards whole school fundraising activities. You can pick and choose what you would like to be involved in. Please come along, have a cup of coffee and learn how you can be part of the Wellard PS Parents and Citizens Association.

NAIDOC WEEK

In Week 11 of this term, staff and students will be participating in a range of activities in celebration of NAIDOC Week which is always held in the first full week of July. NAIDOC stands for the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. NAIDOC is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and an opportunity to recognise the contributions of Indigenous Australians. The school is keen to involve indigenous parents in these activities, so if you are able to help out please contact Ms Rebecca Lanzel through the front office.

STUDENT REPORTS AND CONNECT

It is most important that EVERY PARENT (Pre-primary – Yr 6) has used Connect by Monday 28th June so they are able to access a copy of their child’s report. Please note that reports (Pre-primary – Yr 6) will be sent home on MONDAY 28TH JUNE via Connect. Parents are asked to inform the office if a copy of a report needs to be disseminated to other parties. Paper copies are provided to all Kindergarten students as their reporting format is very different to the rest of the school. Do not hesitate to contact the office if you experience difficulties accessing Connect.

KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS FOR 2022

Wellard PS is now taking enrolments for Kindergarten for 2022. Enrolments will close on Friday 26th July (Week 1 Term 3). It is most important that you enrol your Kindergarten child for next year as soon as possible. Please speak with neighbours etc. who you know need to enrol their child. To be eligible for enrolment, students need to be born between 1st July 2017 and 30th June 2018. When enrolling your child, you will need to come into the office and provide the following:

  • Copy of your child’s Birth Certificate
  • Up to date Immunisation Record History Statement (no older than two months)
  • Proof of Address that you reside in our local intake area – preferably a utility bill in your name that is no older than three months.

Please note that students who live within our local intake area will be prioritised for enrolment. Our local intake area can be found within “Schools Online” on the Department of Education’s website.

HOUSE CROSS COUNTRY EVENTS

Congratulations to all students who participated in our House Cross Country Carnival conducted on Thursday of last week. Special thanks to Mr Paparone and Mr McIntyre for organising this opportunity for all Yr 1 – 6 students. The weather was sensational!!

SCHOOL JACKETS

The cold weather is now upon us along with quite a bit of rain. Parents are asked to ensure their children wear the school jacket to school which can be ordered online at www.nellgray.com.au

SWIMMING LESSONS

Swimming lessons began yesterday and ran very smoothly considering the very cold and wet weather. Thank you to parents and carers who ensured their children were well organised and ready to go. Please ensure that all items are clearly labelled so that we can return them to their rightful owner.

VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS

Payment of Voluntary Contributions is now due. Funds raised through these contributions are used to purchase resources etc. to complement the educational programs we run throughout the school. Thank you to those families who have already paid their contributions. As a school we are always conscious of the costs we seek from parents in relation to educational activities.

Kindergarten – Year 6 - $60 per child per year.

Our preferred way of payment is by using our Qkr App, please see attached PDF for details.

School contributions can also be paid at the office or

Girls Soccer Finals

Last Friday night our girls' soccer team participated in the Regional Soccer finals. Our girls performed to the best of their ability and were able to play in front of a large crowd. Our girls unfortunately were eliminated after the first round after having a very competitive game against Aubin Grove Primary. Well done on a fantastic season girls!
