Newsletter 9 Term 3, Week 8, 9th September 2020

We would all be aware that we have our Athletics Carnival and Open Night coming up over the next couple of weeks. It is an appropriate time to remind parents of the importance of social distancing when attending both of these events to ensure the safety for all. It is particularly important when watching the athletics events that we distance at least 1.5 metres from those who do not reside with you. Bunting will be set up to ensure parents and carers do not encroach in the areas being occupied by students. Parents will be reminded of this throughout the day so please ensure you set up your seating accordingly. I would like to thank everyone in our school community on how well you have managed this when dropping off and picking up your children.

We started the school year with 608 students (135 more than the beginning of 2019) with enrolments currently at 624 students. A conservative estimate of 711 students is being planned for in 2021. I have been successful in obtaining three transportables for 2021 and have put in a request for two more.

This has been approved through the City of Kwinana and we are in the process of waiting to hear from the Department in regards to funding for the signage. More information on how this will operate will be provided in due course.

As a consequence of Wellard Primary growing in size we have decided to run our carnival over a number of days. Recently a note was sent home to parents via Connect outlining the events and on what days they occur. A brief summary of what is happening is as follows:

  • Mon 14th Sept: Yr 1 – 6 400m events
  • Tues: 15th Sept: Jumps and Throws
  • Thurs 17th Sept: Yr 1 – 3 Carnival – Pre-primary students running at 9am
  • Fri 18th Sept: Yr 4 – 6 Carnival – Kindergarten students running at 9am

A Connect message was sent out providing information as to who is in each event.

This is progressing slowly. We are currently waiting for a Service Scan (checks for utilities) to be conducted over the proposed playground site. All things going well, it is anticipated that the installation will take place on the 5th and 6th November. The school has contributed a further $9000 to increase the height of a retaining wall and to install a path between the playground and the boundary fence.

We have two staff (Mrs Sonia Bradfield and Mrs Tamara Brew – Pre-primary Teachers) going on Maternity Leave at the beginning of next term. They will be replaced by Ms Erindra Balage and Miss Janelle Redman respectively, who have been providing DOTT to the teachers in the EC area. Miss Lucy Graham, Miss Alanna D’Asciano and Miss Clancy Micale will share the DOTT positions throughout Term 4. On behalf of the school community I would like to wish Mrs Bradfield and Mrs Brew all the best as they await the arrival of the new additions to their respective families.

Position Vacant: Canteen Supervisor (Part Time – minimum 24 Hours per week)

Wellard Primary School P&C is seeking a self-motivated, hands on dynamic person to oversee the smooth running of our canteen. Experience in a cafe or canteen environment is essential. This role includes a minimum of 24 hours per week. The hours may vary depending on the number of days that the canteen is open. As this is a primary school, you must have or willing to obtain a current working with children check, national police clearance and be eligible to work in Australia.

Please contact the office for an application package. Applications close at 3pm this Friday 11th September.

On Tuesday 22nd September, Wellard PS will be conducting an Open Night where parents are able to visit their child’s classroom and participate in a learning journey guided by their child. Classrooms will be open between 4.00 – 6.00pm. Please note there will not be sufficient time for you to organise a meeting with your child’s teacher during Open Night. This is to be arranged for another time. We do hope that parents (particularly Dads) take up this opportunity to visit Wellard PS.

Unfortunately, during this evening, we are all going to have to adhere to the Covid-19 restrictions. Everyone will be required to monitor social distancing as well as apply hand sanitiser before entering every room. Families will be asked to leave the school grounds immediately after they have participated in their child’s learning journey. No students are permitted to play on any of the playground equipment.

Parents are reminded that all students who have shoulder length hair are required to have it tied back. Students tend to play very closely to each other and having their hair tied back will hopefully reduce the spread of head lice.

Our school photo days will take place in Term 4, Week 2 on Wednesday 21st, Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd October. A schedule outlining the times will be provided to all classes. Please see the end of this newsletter for more information.

Kind regards

Geoff Miller

Dear Parents,

For the duration of COVID-19, please be aware that Kapture photographers are following all recommended health guidelines and safe practices. Photographers will use verbal queues and instructions in an effort to uphold a high standard of student presentation. Students may be instructed by photographers to use single use sterile combs, use wet wipes or tissues, to fix collars, buttons and stray hairs - without physically touching students.

In addition to the above, the class group photo format has been modified whereby a full length ‘character’ pose will be taken of each student in a white studio. The photo is a fun shot with the view to students showing their personality – ‘strike a pose’. These poses will then be combined with all students in the class to form the class group photo of 2020. An example of a character class group and a character pose can be seen as purchase options when ordering your photos online.

Our school photo day is coming! Approximately two weeks prior to the photo day every student will receive a Kapture Photography order envelope to bring home. The recommended method of ordering your photos is online through Kapture’s website as your payment is secure and can be easily verified at any time. If you pay online, there is no need to return the order envelope to school.

Alternatively you can pay by cash and return the provided envelope to the school on the photography day. Please note the photographers cannot open sealed envelopes and cannot provide change.

Sibling orders can only be placed online at

You have the option to order a sibling photo package online, however please note there is a physical limit in the school schedule to how many sibling photos can be taken. Once the maximum capacity of sibling orders has been reached, no more sibling orders can be placed.

If maximum capacity is not reached, sibling orders close 12pm midday sharp, AT LEAST one business day prior to the first photo day. Enter your school code now in the Order Online page of our website for a live countdown.

The school or the photographers cannot accept late orders for sibling photography. Please do not ask as your request simply cannot be accommodated.

Order now to avoid missing out!

Late payment envelopes cannot be accepted by the school office or by Kapture. You can place an order online for class or individual photographs at any time for the remainder of the current school year; however a $20 fee will apply if you order more than 10 days after photography.

If your child is in a sports or special photo, you can use the same school code on your order envelope to view and order these photos on Kapture’s website, around the time that school photos are ready to be delivered. Please note; class, individual and sibling portraits are not available to view online prior to purchase.

Kapture offer a money back guarantee for any parent who is not fully satisfied with their photo package. Should you have any queries before or after photo day, please direct them to the Kapture office on 9240 1714 or email

All students will be photographed individually on photo day for school administration records AS WELL as included in their class group presentation available for purchase to all families. Should there be any reason why your child should NOT be included in the photo shoot –please contact the school office.
