FROM THE PRINCIPAL

I am very pleased to report that our P&C is back on track and plans are in place to reopen the canteen and begin fundraising activities. A big thank you to all of the school community members who have made this possible.

On behalf of the P&C, I would like to announce that we anticipate the canteen opening 4 days a week beginning next term on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. This is very exciting and I know many families and staff are looking forward to the canteen opening. You will see immediately below the advertisement for the Canteen Supervisor position. More information will become available very shortly about future fundraising activities.

ADVERTISEMENT: CANTEEN SUPERVISOR

Position Vacant: Canteen Supervisor (Part Time – minimum 24 Hours per week)

Wellard Primary School P&C is seeking a self-motivated, hands on dynamic person to oversee the smooth running of our canteen. Experience in a cafe or canteen environment is essential. This role includes a minimum of 24 hours per week. The hours may vary depending on the number of days that the canteen is open. As this is a primary school, you must have or willing to obtain a current working with children check, national police clearance and be eligible to work in Australia.

Please contact the office for an application package. Applications close at 3pm on Friday 11th September.

PARENT SURVEY

We have 526 families who have children that attend Wellard Primary School. Of these 526 families we have only had 90 families complete our Parent Survey. We would love to see every family complete this survey so we have a very accurate picture of what our school community thinks of Wellard Primary School. By copying the link below into your browser, you will be able to access this school survey. It will only take you about 10 minutes but will provide us with valuable information.

The survey was available as of Monday 17TH August at 9am and closes on FRIDAY 4th September. If you choose to participate, your responses will be completely anonymous. We will also be surveying staff and students. We thank you in advance for your participation and if you would like to complete the survey and do not have access to an electronic version please contact the office for a paper copy.

SUPERVISION OF KINDERGARTEN/PRE-PRIMARY STUDENTS AFTER SCHOOL

The early closure time for our Kindergarten and Pre-primary students results in some parents supervising these students outside primary teaching blocks and classrooms. I ask that your child stays with you and does not play on any of the art works, playground equipment or brick walls. It is also important that the noise is kept to a minimum so that primary classrooms are not disturbed until siren time at 3pm.

P&C MEETING

Our next P&C Meeting will be conducted on Wednesday 9th September commencing at 1.45pm in the Staff Room. The P&C is trying this approach in an attempt to attract more parents to our meetings. Come along and have a coffee before you pick up your child.

OPEN NIGHT

On Tuesday 22nd September, Wellard PS will be conducting an Open Night where parents are able to visit their child’s classroom and participate in a learning journey guided by their child. Classrooms will be open between 4.00 – 6.00pm. Please note there will not be sufficient time for you to organise a meeting with your child’s teacher during Open Night. This is to be arranged for another time. We do hope that parents (particularly Dads) take up this opportunity to visit Wellard PS.

Unfortunately, during this evening, we are all going to have to adhere to the Covid-19 restrictions. Everyone will be required to monitor social distancing as well as apply hand sanitiser before entering every room. Families are asked to leave the school grounds immediately after they have participated in their child’s learning journey.

No students are permitted to play on any of the playground equipment.

PARENTS UNABLE TO ENTER CLASSROOMS

Parents and carers are reminded they are not permitted to enter classrooms or wet areas during the school day. This is a requirement put in place by the state government and it is most important it is adhered to.

BOOK FAIR

Jane Rogers, our school librarian, has organised for our Book Fair to be conducted between Tuesday 8th – Monday 14th September (Weeks 8 & 9). Students and parents will be given time before and after school to purchase books and other book related items. A portion of the overall expenditure is returned to the library to purchase more books.

LIBRARY BAGS

We have a ‘no bag, no book’ policy in our library, in a bid to help protect our valuable school resources from unnecessary damage. To help children take appropriate care of our library books it is essential for each child to use a library bag, marked clearly with his/her name.

We now have our preferred library bags available for purchase in the library at a cost of $6.25 per bag. It is not compulsory to have this exact bag, however this bag is waterproof, completely closes and is large enough to hold all of the different size books that we offer in our library.

UNIFORMS

Parents are asked to write their child’s name on all uniform items, particularly zip up jackets. Having their name on it ensures they are promptly returned to the child concerned.  I also suggest students leave their hat at school to prevent them from leaving them at home. They can still take them home every few weeks for a wash.

HOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVALS

This year our carnival will be conducted over three days (Week 9) as per the following:

  • Jumps and Throws: Tuesday 15th September
  • Year 1 – 3 Carnival: Thursday 17th September
  • Year 4 – 6 Carnival: Friday 18th September

More information to follow.

MERIT CERTIFICATES

Merit Certificates will be presented to students on Friday morning. Photographs of students receiving certificates will be emailed to parents.

INTERSCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY

Well done to all our students who participated in the interschool cross country. Wellard Primary displayed great sportsmanship and excellent behaviour throughout the day. We were rewarded with some great results finishing 5th overall with 682 points. This is the best placing Wellard has received in it's 3 year history!

We also had 3 students finish in the top 3 with all receiving a medal for their efforts.

Ruby - Year 3 (Silver Medal)

Jayden - Year 5 (Silver Medal)

Rashon - Year 5 (Bronze Medal)

 

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Our girls soccer team also participated in the Regional Champions Cup Finals after finishing 1st in their group in the Interschool Soccer Carnival. The event took place after school at Aubin Grove Reserve where the girls tried their best. We unfortunately lost our opening match resulting in the girls being eliminated, however they got to experience what it was like to play soccer at a regional level. Well done girls!!

GILMORE COLLEGE TOUR – Thursday 17 September, 9:00–10:30am

Our Principal Rohan Smith and members of the College Board personally welcome you to attend a Tour of the College held on Thursday 17 September, 9:00–10:30am.

College Tours provide prospective and current families the opportunity to visit the school during a normal day, visiting the places where learning and engagement take place and to provide you and your family with a true sense of Gilmore College. The student leaders in particular are a great source of authentic information about what it means to be a Gilmore College student day to day. 

Morning tea and a Question & Answer session will follow the tour in the College staff room. We will answer your questions honestly, explain our ethos and our passions.
