Newsletter 14, Term 3, Week 8, 6 September 2022
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Our next P&C Meeting will be conducted on Monday 12th September between 1.40 – 2.40pm in the Staff Room. I encourage as many parents as possible to attend this meeting rather than sitting in your vehicle waiting to pick up your child. I would like to thank all members of the P&C for coming together and ensuring that our P&C has a future. I am very much looking forward to working with the P&C in the coming months as we plan future fundraising events. It is great to see some new faces and to witness the energy and enthusiasm that comes with this. The P&C is currently trying to find a replacement for our Canteen Supervisor when she is unable to work so that we can keep the canteen open.
MORE FREE RAPID ANTIGEN TESTS (RATs)
Families are now able to access a further 20 free Rapid Antigen Tests per student. These tests can be picked up from the office between 8am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday. Please note we are not permitted to send the RATs home with primary school aged children. Do not hesitate to contact the office if you have any queries.
OPEN NIGHT
On Tuesday 20th September (Week 10), Wellard PS will be conducting an Open Night where parents are able to visit their child’s classroom and where they can be shown the wonderful work they have been doing throughout the year. Classrooms will be open between 4.00 – 6.00pm. Please note there will not be sufficient time for you to organise a meeting with your child’s teacher during Open Night. This is to be arranged for another time. We do hope that parents (particularly Dads) take up this opportunity to visit Wellard PS.
PRE-PRIMARY AND KINDERGARTEN AREA
Parents are reminded that students should not be playing on equipment before school in the Pre-primary and Kindergarten playground. This becomes a safety issue where we have lots of students, including older siblings, not being supervised. Classrooms are open by 8.20am every morning so students should head straight to class upon arriving.
SICK STUDENTS
As we get closer to the warmer months we still have quite a few students (and staff) who are suffering from a range of illnesses. I ask that if your child is coughing and spluttering please keep them home until they have fully recovered. Sending children to school when they are sick can result in students and staff coming down with the same illness. Your cooperation with this is greatly appreciated.
HOUSE NAMES
Mr Dylan Collard, our Noongar Language teacher, has been working with our student leaders, staff, parents and community members in establishing Noongar names for our House Names. The students have been through a process where they have looked at what actually exists in and around Wellard PS. More information will follow once a decision is made.
BOOK FAIR
Mrs Jane Rogers, our school librarian, organised for our Book Fair to be conducted between Tuesday 30th August – Monday 5th September (Weeks 7 & 8). I am pleased to report that it has been a huge success (Just over $7000 of sales) with many families purchasing from the Book Fair. Thank you to Mrs Rogers for again coordinating our Book Fair.
NEXT ASSEMBLY
Our next assembly will be conducted by Miss Bryson’s Year 4 class (Rm 16) on Friday 9th September (Week 8) commencing at 8.50am in the Assembly Area.
VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS
Payment of Voluntary Contributions is now due. Funds raised through these contributions are used to purchase resources etc. to complement the educational programs we run throughout the school. Thank you to those families who have already paid their contributions. As a school we are always conscious of the costs we seek from parents in relation to educational activities.
Kindergarten – Year 6 - $60 per child per year.
Our preferred way of payment is by using our Qkr App, please see attached PDF for details.
School contributions can also be paid at the office or by direct deposit.
Account Name: Wellard Primary School
(Please use the student’s surname as reference)
BSB: 066 040 Account Number 19901412
UNIFORMS
Parents are asked to write their child’s name on all uniform items, particularly zip up jackets. Having their name on it ensures they are promptly returned to the child concerned. I also suggest students leave their hat at school to prevent them from leaving them at home. They can still take them home every few weeks for a wash.
Kind regards

Bottlecap Mural In Visual Arts this term we created a Bottle cap Mural to link with Science Week. Firstly, parents and students of Wellard primary kindly donated lots of bottle caps for our Mural. Then, the Arts and Culture Captains sorted the bottle caps into their colour combinations each lunchtime and before school. After that the year 5 classes painted the design onto the wood. Every time one of the classes from 1-6 came to Art, students had the opportunity to stick some bottle caps onto a wooden board to create the mural for Science Week. Mrs Protzman, Mrs Singleton and Mr Ricci then drilled screws into every bottle cap to secure it into place and then mounted the mural on display in front of the art room. Thank you to all of the parents and kids of Wellard Primary that kindly donated their old bottle caps. It reminded us of how we can recycle and reuse plastic to create beautiful art!
