Newsletter 14, Term 3, Week 10, 21st September 2021

This last week of Term 4 is going to be a very busy one for all concerned!! Yesterday we had students from St Columbus join our school choir to put on a wonderful performance for the whole school. A big thank you to Miss Makanza for organising this event with Mrs Smith from the St Columbus school. It was a great way for us to commence NAIDOC week just prior to our Opening NAIDOC Assembly. Well done to Mrs Neidig’s class for running our assembly ensuring it was a highlight for all. The sand mural looks fantastic and I know students are looking forward to showing you at the Open Night tonight

It is hard to believe that we will be commencing Term 4 in a couple of weeks, this being the final term for our Year 6 students at Wellard Primary School.  I would like to wish all of these students all the best and hope they continue to work hard throughout the term.

This evening, Wellard PS will be conducting an Open Night where parents are able to visit their child’s classroom and participate in a learning journey guided by their child. Classrooms will be open between 4.00 – 6.00pm. Please note there will not be sufficient time for you to organise a meeting with your child’s teacher during Open Night. This is to be arranged for another time. We do hope that parents (particularly Dads) take up this opportunity to visit Wellard PS.

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. (We have decided to conduct ours in September.) NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. The theme of this year’s NAIDOC Week is Heal Country. NAIDOC 2021 invites the nation to embrace First Nations’ cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of Australia's national heritage and equally respect the culture and

values of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders as they do the cultures and values of all Australians. I would like to thank the following people who will contribute to the NAIDOC activities:

  • Mrs Roni Forrest, Noongar Elder and 2021 NAIDOC Female Elder of the Year
  • Mrs Marie Taylor, Noongar Elder
  • Mr Lindsay Calyun, Noongar Elder
  • Mr Dylan Collard Noongar Teacher
  • Mrs Emma Castle
  • Mrs Collene Castle
  • Mr Garry Ryder
  • Parents who are helping out
  • NAIDOC Committee

It is because of the above people that our NAIDOC week has become a real highlight of the school year. Thank you!!

The School Board will be meeting tomorrow afternoon at 5pm. The School Board consists of Sarah Hamilton, Emma Castle, Tegan Parsonson, Angela Whisson, Jess Gibson, Rebecca Lanzel and Geoff Miller.  Please do not hesitate to speak with any of the Board Members about agenda items you would like raised at this meeting.

Congratulations to all students on the level of sportsmanship they displayed throughout the day and the way they conducted themselves throughout. Well done Mr Paparone and Mr McIntyre on the organisation of the day. I would also like to thank and acknowledge the efforts of staff (including Kindergarten and Pre-primary staff) over the last term in preparing students for their events. A reminder that we have postponed the House Athletics Carnival until Wednesday 13th October (Week 1, Term 4) due to the bad weather. I would also like to thank Mrs Nicole Jovanovic for being our school photographer on our Jumps and Throws day. Her photos were fantastic and provide a valuable record of the day.

You may have noticed we have some site works being prepared for new buildings on the western side of the Assembly Area on the outside of the school grounds. We will hopefully have three new buildings fully installed by Wednesday 20th October with a further two to be installed over the Christmas holiday period.

In recent weeks we have had events where it has provided the opportunity for parents to take photographs of their own children. We have a number of parents who have requested that their child’s photograph not be used by the school on Facebook, Instagram etc. for a range of reasons. I request that when taking photographs of your own child, please do not post them on social media if the identity of other students can be determined.

Mrs Horsten, our Canteen Supervisor, is in desperate need of volunteers in the canteen on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  You might have a couple of hours available in the morning or the afternoon, any contribution will be greatly appreciated. Please see Mrs Horsten if you are available.

The last day of term is Friday 24th September with students returning on Monday 11th October. There is no School Development Day on the first day of Term Four.

Have a great break everyone!

Kind regards

Geoff Miller

Dear Parents,

Your school photo day is coming! Every student has received a personalised order envelope to bring home from Kapture Photography. The recommended method of ordering your photos is online through Kapture’s website as your payment is secure and can be easily verified at any time. If you pay online, there is no need to return the order envelope to school.

KEEP YOUR ORDER ENVELOPE SECURE! The unique codes contained on the envelope will be issued only once.

Alternatively you can pay by cash and return the provided envelope sealed with correct money, to their class teacher on the photography day. Please note the photographers or School cannot provide change.

Order EARLY for sibling photography

Sibling photos can ONLY be ordered online. Once you receive your envelope, it is imperative that you order your sibling photo early to avoid missing out! There is a physical limit in the school schedule to how many sibling photos can be taken. Once the maximum capacity of sibling orders has been reached, no more sibling orders can be placed.

If maximum capacity is not reached, sibling orders close 12pm midday sharp, one business day prior to the first photo day.

The school or the photographers cannot accept late orders for sibling photography. Please do not ask as your request simply cannot be accommodated. Order EARLY for discount photo day prices

Order your photos within 10 calendar days of photo day to receive discount photo day prices. Late orders are handled separately to the school delivery and incur a $20 custom service charge.

Other information

Late cash payment envelopes cannot be accepted by the school office or by Kapture.

Your school will notify you in a few weeks when team and special group photos are available to view and purchase on the Kapture website. Please note; class, individual and sibling portraits are not available to view online prior to purchase.

Should there be any reason why your child should NOT be included in the photo shoot –please contact the school office.

Many thanks to all the families who have already started making a change and donating to the P&C.
