Newsletter 12, Term 3, Week 4, 9 August 2022
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Last Friday, I met with 17 parents who are interested in re-establishing the P&C. The meeting was very positive with lots of ideas being suggested to attract more members. The purpose and function of the P&C was outlined and we also talked about the most effective ways in communicating with the school community. The P&C meets twice a term with it’s main aim being to raise funds to improve/increase the facilities for students at Wellard PS. The Sustainability Garden is the main project along with keeping the canteen open. The more parents we have, the greater capacity the P&C will have in raising funds and improving the school for all students. We have decided to conduct our Annual General Meeting in the Staff Room on Monday 22nd August (Week 6) commencing at 1.45pm and concluding by 2.40pm in time for pick up. So instead of sitting inside your car waiting to pick up your child, please come into the Staff Room, have a coffee and find out about the P&C. Thank you to everyone who attended last Friday, your input was greatly appreciated and it gives me great confidence about the future of our P&C. Please do not hesitate to contact me via phone or email if you have any questions.
MORE FREE RAPID ANTIGEN TESTS (RATs)
Families will soon be able to access a further 20 free Rapid Antigen Tests per student. Information will be coming home in the near future on how these RATs are to be distributed once we have received them. Please note we are not permitted to send the RATs home with primary school aged children. Do not hesitate to contact the office if you have any queries.
CONFIRMATION OF PRE-PRIMARY ENROLMENTS FOR 2023
Last term, all Kindergarten parents received a form to complete in regards to enrolling their child for Pre-primary for 2023.
It is most important these forms are completed and submitted by Friday 23rd September. Please contact the office if you have any queries.
CONFIRMATION OF KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS FOR 2023
Thank you to those parents who submitted their child’s Kindergarten Application for Enrolment for 2023. We’ve had a number of parents who have taken enrolment forms and are yet to return them. It is most important these are submitted as soon as possible so that we can begin our planning for next year. At this point in time, we only have 12 positions available for 2023. When an enrolment is confirmed we will also ask parents for their preference of days. This will all be explained in the correspondence. Please note that we will not be confirming the exact days that Kindergarten children will be attending until early Term 4. This is because we would like to organise for parents and their child/ren to visit the Kindergarten before we make any decision about grouping students. The school is very aware that parents need to attend to childcare arrangements in planning for 2023.
SCIENCE WEEK
We are very fortunate to have appointed Mrs Kylea Singleton as our Science Specialist teacher at Wellard PS. Mrs Singleton will be organising a range of activities for Science Week which will be occurring in Week 5. (16th – 19th August). Please see the end of this newsletter for more info.
SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT DAY
Parents and guardians are reminded that we have a School Development Day on Monday 15th August (Week 5). Students DO NOT come to school this day as staff will be involved in professional learning.

VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS
Payment of Voluntary Contributions is now due. Funds raised through these contributions are used to purchase resources etc. to complement the educational programs we run throughout the school. INTERSCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY
Well done to all our students who participated in the Interschool Cross Country. Wellard Primary displayed great sportsmanship and excellent behaviour throughout the day. We were rewarded with some great results finishing 4th overall out of 9 schools. This is the best placing Wellard has received in its 5 year history!
We also had 3 students finish in the top 3 with all receiving a medal for their efforts.
Mackenzie - Year 3 (Bronze Medal)
Joyce - Year 4 (Bronze Medal)
Ruby - Year 5 (Silver Medal)
Thank you, to all the families that came and supported our students.
Kind Regards

NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK – WEEK 5 - 16TH TO 19TH AUGUST 2022
National Science Week is Australia’s national annual celebration of all things Science and Technology. This year at Wellard Primary School we are going to celebrate in a number of different ways that will showcase student’s scientific knowledge, interest, and investigative skills.
SCIENCE FAIR
To kick Science Week off at Wellard PS we are going to be holding our very first annual Science Fair for students in Years 1 to 6. Students are invited to independently design a project based on a science topic that is of interest to them. Students can work alone, in pairs, or in a group. I have put some ideas on your child’s class CONNECT page under the ‘Library’ tab, along with the guidelines that students must follow when designing and completing their project. The Science Fair is not compulsory but I would love for as many students as possible to participate. This is an activity that is to be completed at home. Parents/family are encouraged to help, but the majority of the work must be completed by the child. Submissions in the Science Fair must be given to me in the science room no later than Friday 12th August 2022. Entries will be displayed in the library during Science Week – 16th – 19th August 2022.
Colouring Competition
There will be a colouring competition for students in Kindy to Year 2. These will be sent home with students next week and will need to be returned by Friday 12th August for judging. Entries will be displayed on the windows of the library during Science Week. Prize winners will be announced on Tuesday 16th August 2022.
Science Scavenger Hunt
The Science Scavenger Hunt will keep students in Years 1 to 6 engaged as they solve clues and search the school for answers. Students that wish to participate in the Scavenger Hunt will need to get a clue sheet from the science room and complete it during their recess and/or lunch breaks. Entries are to be submitted by Thursday 18th August 2022. All correct entries will be placed in a draw. Winners will be announced on Friday 19th August 2022.
Please feel free to come and visit me in the science room if you have any questions.
Kind Regards
Mrs Kylea Singleton
Science Specialist
